Artist Statement
My practice explores the nonlinear nature of time, unearthing past and present, working to materialise intersections of memory. My work defies time, weaving together familial and auto historical elements, collective memory and degradation, drawing from archival photographs and the subjectivity of imagined and recollected places. In each place, each family, each moment, there are things that are left behind, patterns that are repeated, cycled again, trapped. These are the things I hope to render, to materialise a fragment of what remains. I encase my paintings in objects that isolate the viewer, allowing them to experience the cyclical nature of time, and place. My work is as imperfect as our own recollection of time: detailed, yet vague, familiar yet strange, unexplained, slight, yet enveloping.
